‘The Bachelor’ Star Ben Higgins Launches Generous Coffee Co.

Whether you are a fan of reality tv showsor not, you have to applaud people like Ben Higgins (Season 20, The Bachelor) who can turn the fame garnered from a season of make-out sessions and heartbreak into something truly amazing.   Introducing Generous Coffee Co.—part of a movement to invest in underresourced communities with each purchase of a specialty product.  Higgins and his team are investing 100% of profits into causes and non-profits that share a goal of creating sustainable change all over the world.  Jobs, education improvements and food for those in need are just some of the ways that are using the profits from each sale.

“It is the most amazing thing to witness when lives are changed through the funding of Generous,” Higgins recently told Daily Coffee News, “whether it is people having the opportunity for education, access to health care, clean water, jobs, newly built and safe infrastructure, or equality in the household.”

The coffee business, based in Denver, CO., was established by Higgins and business partners Riley Fuller and Darwin Suazo in November, 2017.   The coffee is roasted in Higgins’ home state (Indiana) at Fort Wayne’s Utopian Coffee Co.  It’s the first venture in what the company describes as the Generous Movement, a self-described “for-purpose” business that plans to use profits to fund operational expenses of nonprofits or social enterprises that are doing sustainable, life-changing work around the world.

Generous is sourcing single-origin, specialty-grade coffees with a focus on traceability, according to Higgins. Currently, the company is offering coffees from Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, and Rwanda direct to consumers online.

“We build these relationships through local exporters, who have built previous relationships with the producers,” Higgins told Daily Coffee News. “We partner with exporters who provide technical training to these farms to improve the quality of their coffee, which increases the price the producers can charge for their green beans.”  Each bag of coffee consumed by the Generous Movement raises income and living standards for the producers. Every dollar generated creates an opportunity for someone to work or receive education who wouldn’t normally have the chance.  Each 12 oz. bag sells for $15.99.

Higgins shares a beautiful sentiment on the company website, “We are a for purpose business that aims to make the world better with every business decision and believes in the unique value of every human being.”   To learn more and to make a purchase:  www.generousmovement.com

Javamelts Turn Ordinary into Extraordinary

Javamelts are an innovative and convenient new way to flavor and sweeten coffee.  The Javamelt cubes deliver a tasty delicate balance of flavor and sweetness without overpowering the natural taste of the coffee or tea.  There is no aftertaste and no artificial sweeteners used.  Because Javamelts are innovative, portable, convenient, and individually wrapped (no mess, no spills, no waste, no cleanup) they are perfectly convenient for enjoyment at home or on the go.

Available in four gourmet flavors — Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Mocha and Caramel — the individually wrapped, non-dairy flavored sweeteners make for a quick and simple way to take control of the taste of both coffee and tea, according to the maker. "We preferred them in coffee, hot coffee.  But we did give them a go in iced coffee.  Tasted great, but just took a little longer to dissolve in the cold brewed coffee, worth the wait."

Javamelts are made with 5 grams of real sugar and are only 20 calories each plus they are dairy- and gluten-free. They have a shelf life of up to one year, and no refrigeration is required.  We haven’t tried this yet...but…we did see a photo on Instagram where a Javamelt was being served on top of a bowl of oatmeal.  Bet that is just delicious.  To learn more or to order direct, visit www.javamelts.com.   Save 20% on your first order using promo code:  GET20JAVA.

Happiness is a Red Teapot

"An enjoyable source of wit and wisdom matched with beautiful photography. Sure to be enjoyed by all tea lovers. Makes a great gift!"

For centuries, tea has held a valued place in both Eastern and Western cultures. From the ritual of a Japanese tea ceremony to the cozy informality of an English cuppa at the kitchen table, tea (whether green, black, white or herb) soothes, grounds and comforts us. It’s no surprise that so many of us switch the kettle on at the first sign of trouble - keep calm and drink tea! In fact, that’s how this book came about.

After a particularly stressful week, editor Anouska Jones was sitting at home with her husband complaining about everything that had gone wrong. As he put their teapot and two mugs down on the table, her husband commented, "Cheer up! You can’t be miserable when you’ve got a bright red teapot in front of you!" The very next morning, Anouska started researching quotes about tea and before long she had a collection of memorable quotations from rock stars (Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart), Buddhist monks (Thich Nat Hahn), politicians (Abraham Lincoln, William Gladstone), actors (Audrey Hepburn, Billy Connolly), adventurers (Bear Grylls) and more.

It seems tea’s appeal is truly universal! It’s hoped that the resulting book of quotes and accompanying photographs brings you the same pleasure as a perfectly brewed cup of your own particular favorite.

Anouska Jones is a book editor, publisher, reviewer and author, who has worked in publishing for over twenty years. She is a huge believer in the power of a cup of tea to fix pretty much anything!

How to Reuse Tea Bags

You can get extra use out of teabags after your cup of tea.  You can reuse the teabag, but after the first cup it will start to lose flavor and strength. But if you think teabags are only used in the drink, read on, there are plenty of other uses for them!

  • Use teabags on your puffy eyes. Warm or cold teabags can help refresh your eyes whether they're achy, tired or puffy.
  • Reduce plantar warts. Plantar warts can be treated with teabags because of the tannin in the tea. On the affected area, place a warm wet teabag for 10-20 minutes, and then leave it to dry naturally. If you repeat this for a couple of days, hopefully the wart will go.
  • Give yourself a facial. Facials can be expensive, but you can make one at home... using tea. Place a brewed tea bag into a bowl of hot water. Then position your head over the bowl, and then put a towel over your head to keep the steam in. It will leave your face glowing and radiant!
  • Soothe burns and nicks from razors by applying a wet teabag to the skin.  If you have sunburn, a bruise, stings or bites, or a cold sore you can put a damp tea bag onto the area and it will help to soothe the skin.
  • If you have a big, dirty, greasy dish that seems impossible to clean, leave it overnight with hot water and a few brewed teabags. They will help break down the grease.
  • Clean dark leather shoes by wiping a wet, brewed teabag onto the surface of the shoe.
  • Control odors around the house with teabags. Put some used teabags in a bowl and place inside a smelly fridge. Leave overnight, remove the teabags and be left with the much nicer smell of tea!
